As the global COVID-19 pandemic grows ever-more serious, government bodies are doing their best to encourage staying at home and social distancing. In Italy, one of the countries with the highest death tolls due to coronavirus, quarantine and lockdown have already been enforced, and mayors are trying to tackle the issue of quarantine breakers.
Despite the seriousness of the issue, there’s a little light at the end of the tunnel, as various mayors’ statements have attracted a lot of attention online. Specifically, one in which an Italian mayor compares quarantine breakers to Will Smith in post-apocalypse movie, I Am Legend.
As shared to Twitter, an Italian mayor can be seen speaking about COVID-19 during a conference, where he explains what he told a quarantine breaker who was out with his dog.
“I saw a fellow citizen amiably jog up and down the street accompanied by a dog that was visibly worn out,” he said. “I stopped and told him, look this isn’t a movie. You are not Will Smith in I Am Legend. Go home.”

The clip has now gone viral, with lots of people praising the comments and other featured in the compilation.
Referencing another quip, one Twitter user quoted: “‘Why are you getting a mobile hairdresser in? Don’t you understand the casket will be closed??’ Love it. Nobody does articulate anger like the Italians.”
Others praised the mayor in question. One user said: “He is the Mayor of my city!!! Lately he is entertaining us with some Facebook streamings, usually before lunch! We love him!!!”
As Twitter user MissGraziellaR put it: “I need to see more of him and others. They’re funny and very serious at the same time. We all need a few laughs.”
