‘You’re Not Will Smith In I Am Legend,’ Mayors Remind Italy

As the global COVID-19 pandemic grows ever-more serious, government bodies are doing their best to encourage staying at home and social distancing. In Italy, one of the countries with the highest death tolls due to coronavirus, quarantine and lockdown have already been enforced, and mayors are trying to tackle the issue of quarantine breakers.

Despite the seriousness of the issue, there’s a little light at the end of the tunnel, as various mayors’ statements have attracted a lot of attention online. Specifically, one in which an Italian mayor compares quarantine breakers to Will Smith in post-apocalypse movie, I Am Legend.

“I saw a fellow citizen amiably jog up and down the street accompanied by a dog that was visibly worn out,” he said. “I stopped and told him, look this isn’t a movie. You are not Will Smith in I Am Legend. Go home.”
