YouTuber Fixes Joy-Con Drift With A Piece Of Cardboard

A YouTuber has claimed to have fixed the Joy-Con drift issue for the Nintendo Switch with a piece of cardboard.

Yes, that’s correct, a YouTuber has claimed to have fixed the infamous Joy-Con control issue with a mere piece of cardboard. Are you watching Nintendo?

As reported by VGC, a YouTuber uploaded a video entitled “How to Fix Your Joy-Con Drift” to the channel ‘VK’s Channel’. In the video, the YouTuber demonstrates in a calibration screen a Joy-Con which has a drift issue.

The YouTuber explains that when a small amount of pressure is applied to an area of the Joy-Con, no drift is experienced. However, as soon as the pressure is lifted, the drift returns.

Here is the genius part

When the shell is taken off from the Joy-Con, there is a small square metal piece. It is reported that at times this metal piece can come loose, which is the potential cause of the drift.

However, when a small piece of cardboard is placed over the metal piece, it essentially shortens the distance between the metal piece and the plastic Joy-Con shell. As a result, a slight, but continued pressure is applied, thus removing the drift.

Is this a better alternative?

I am not very tech-savvy, but even for me this would appear to be a simple fix should my Joy-Cons experience any drift. As a potential alternative, it’s certainly less hassle jumping through official Nintendo loops or coughing up money for a new Joy-Con. Though I cannot personally recommend attempting this fix as it may void your warranty. So it’s entirely up to you.
