Zelda Majora’s Mask Comes To Nintendo Switch Online Next Month

Nintendo have confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is the next title coming to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.

Players who are subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack can expect to see Majora’s Mask some time in February. Funnily enough the tweet from Nintendo announcing the news used an image of the box art highlighting how the expansion pak was required for Majora’s Mask.

Back in the day, if you wanted to play certain games, you needed to get certain hardware. Certain N64 games required an expansion pak, which would double the amount of RAM the console had access to, which is what the image alludes to.

full circle

So essentially, Majora’s Mask has come full circle, once again requiring an Expansion Pack to play it. The followup to Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask was a much darker take on Zelda than fans were used to when it was released in 2000. Zelda did have its moodier moments here and there. But it was a major shift in tone from previous releases. Some fans consider it the best in the series, notably for its unique game design and world building.

Of course, not all fans are excited at the announcement. The Ocarina of Time release on the Expansion Pack faced multiple issues, particularly graphical glitches. Hopefully Majora’s Mask won’t face the same issues.

This news follows yesterday’s release of Banjo-Kazooie on the Expansion Pack, the first time a Banjo-Kazooie game has been on a Nintendo console since 2005.
