It is widely expected that despite Sony recently announcing that they wouldn’t be holding a PlayStation Experience last December and that they also won’t be attending E3 this year, many hope that we still might get a PlayStation 5 announcement this in 2019, with the console perhaps releasing sometime in 2020. This year we can already expect a wealth of top-tier PS4 exclusives to arrive such as Days Gone, The Last of Us Part 2, Ghost of Tsushima and hopefully with a bit of luck, Death Stranding.
So while we already have some confirmed titles to release on PS4, what about the forthcoming PS5? Well of course we have nothing confirmed yet, not officially at least, but that hasn’t stopped me dreaming up games that I’d love to see on the next generation console. Whether any of these will be launch titles or released further down the line, remains to be seen. However, below are six exclusives that I want to see on the PlayStation 5! Now of course this short list is subjective, so there will be a difference of opinion. I’ll also try to keep my list restricted to current PlayStation exclusive titles only. That said, be sure to let us know what you’d like to see on the PS5 across our social media channels.
Horizon Zero Dawn 2 – PlayStation 5 Exclusives
When Horizon Zero Dawn was announced at E3 2015 and was to be developed by Guerrilla Games, it took many by surprise. This surprise was largely due to the fact that this was a massive step in a different direction by the development studio, because other then the very mediocre Shellshock: Nam ’67, they had only developed the Killzone series. As a result, many had questioned whether or not this open-world, post-apocalyptic setting populated by robot dinosaurs would be any good and some even believed that it was a sure-fire flop in the making. However, what we got in 2017 when Horizon Zero Dawn released, was not only one of the best games of that year, but also one of the best games to release this generation. Not only that, but we then got the fantastic expansion with The Frozen Wilds, which not only expanded on the story, but introduced us to a whole new location and robotic dinosaur beasts to tame. Naturally, the success of Horizon Zero Dawn and The Frozen Wilds has left fans wanting more and we certainly hope that a sequel hits the PS5 as early as possible!
Bloodborne 2 – PlayStation 5 Exclusives
When Dark Souls and Bloodborne developers teased an upcoming new title at The Game Awards last year, many had thought that a Bloodborne 2 announcement was on the way. So at E3 2019, it was expected that Bloodborne 2 would be announced, however, it was a new game entirely with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, a game set in 16th century Japan during the Sengoku and it was to be a multi-platform title published by Activision. So with many feeling a tad disappointed that last year’s tease wasn’t Bloodborne 2 (even though Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice looks awesome) and the added fact that 2015’s PS4 exclusive Bloodborne was a bloody good game, fans want more of that gothic goodness! However, knowing that FromSoftware like to take their sweet time developing their masterpieces, if a Bloodborne 2 does happen, it’s likely that it will release for the PS5. But it will no doubt be well worth the wait.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 – PlayStation 5 Exclusives
Given the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 from Insomniac Games, its well, a given that we should get a follow-up on PS5. Any Marvel fan will know that it has an incredibly expansive universe with a multitude of possibilities. Without going into any spoilers, considering the conclusion of Marvel’s Spider-Man, we know that at least one main villain is all-but guaranteed in a sequel, well I perhaps should say that at least two villain’s are all-but guaranteed. So with a Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 being a dead cert, it’s now the question as to whether it will arrive late-on in the PS4’s life cycle or it may be saved as a big hitting PS5 exclusive. Personally, I’d go with the latter, because the possibility of playing Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS5 is well, Amazing!
God of War 2 – PlayStation 5 Exclusives
Well, I say God of War 2, but long-standing fans will know that this is anything but the second game in the long-running series; however, it is of course the second in the series since the epic 2018 reboot. Again, I won’t go into any spoilers here for anyone that is yet to finish God of War, but if you re-visited your home following the conclusion of the story, then you will know what God awaits the presence of Kratos next. It’s also little secret that Santa Monica Studio’s have already started the ground work on the follow-up. However, the question is, how will the follow-up evolve technically? Graphically it will no doubt look even more immense, but there’s little tweaking that needs to be made to the combat, other than perhaps the introduction of new weapons. I don’t think going fully open-world is the answer, but I would like to see branching storylines with multiple endings to add more life into the next Kratos tale, but that’s just my opinion. Either way, if the next God of War does land on the PS5, it will no doubt once more, be one of the greatest games of its generation.
Uncharted 5 – PlayStation 5 Exclusives
I’ll be careful what I say here again, because I don’t want to spoil anything for those that are yet to finish the brilliant Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End or Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, but considering the ending of Uncharted 4 in particular, a new Uncharted game could go any number of ways. Sure it’s always great to go on an epic adventure with Nathan Drake and Sully Victor Sullivan, but what about Sam Drake? Nathan’s fellow wise-cracking brother, is someone that is perhaps even more willing to cross certain morale lines? However, if we don’t get an Uncharted 5 on the PS5, how about a full remake of Uncharted: Drakes Fortune? Sure I do love the original game in the series, but it was certainly a flawed game in some ways, so it could very well be a worthy remake.
Killzone 5 – PlayStation 5 Exclusives
Don’t get me wrong, I know Killzone: Shadow Fall wasn’t great, but I still liked it and considering it was a PS4 launch title, it still looks pretty stunning. Yes, the difficulty spikes may have frustrated the hell out of me at times, but it also felt quite rewarding when I passed a testing section of the game. That said, it’s been just over five years since the release of the last Killzone on a main console and I think it’s almost about time that we got a new one. The only real stumbling block with the potential of a new Killzone is that if developers Guerrilla Games would be working on a new Horizon Zero Dawn, but then, there is always the possibility of out-sourcing the development to another studio under the Sony umbrella. Either way, a new Killzone could be years down the line, which makes it an ideal release for the PlayStation 5.
Well that concludes my short list of just six exclusives that I’d love to see on the next generation PlayStation console, so with so many candidates missing from this list, remember to let us know what you’ll love to see across our social media channels.
