Activision Blizzard Has Appointed A Chief Diversity Officer

Activision Blizzard has appointed Kristen Hines as the new chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer.

After a year of numerous issues at Activision Blizzard, including multiple lawsuits alleging sexual harassment, firing QA workers, and claims of intimidating employees and union busting, Hines has been appointed as the chief diversity officer in order to make the company as diverse as what it presents in its games.

I’m excited to join a company that is prioritising its commitment to DEI and making progress on the ambitious goals it has set for itself,” said Hines. “In an industry with historical underrepresentation, I’m looking forward to leading the company’s efforts to further build a workplace that values transparency, equity, and inclusivity.

Bobby Kotick, the CEO of Activision Blizzard that has had numerous calls to resign, also provided a statement. “Activision Blizzard has ambitious goals to become the most welcoming and inclusive company in the gaming industry,” Kotick said. “We have already made significant progress ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees, and we are excited to have Kristen join our leadership team to help drive even greater improvement.

Kristen’s success leading complex transformation with measurable results makes her the right person to ensure we deliver on our diversity, equity and inclusion commitments and build a model workplace aligned with our values.

Whether Hines is able to accomplish this remains to be seen. We can of course be optimistic, but it is clear a large amount of work needs to be done. Especially when only last week were a number of contractors hired as full-time staff, but unionising workers were not included in this hiring.
