The Batgirl movie has been cancelled in the final stages of post-production by Warner Bros.
Batgirl was a film based on the DC character Barbara Gordon, also known as Batgirl. It would have been a new installment in the DC Extended Universe, or DCEU. It starred Leslie Grace as Batgirl alongside J.K Simmons, Jacob Scipio, Michael Keaton and Brendan Fraser.
But despite nearly being finished, Warner Bros has shelved the project in the final stages of post-production. At a screening, the film received heavy negative feedback, with one source describing it as “irredeemable”.
However, Warner Bros insiders suggest that the decision was not due to the quality of the film. Rather, it was down to Warner Bros’ desire to have all DC films be of a blockbuster scale. Apparently, they wanted to refocus their priorities as part of a new strategy.

This new strategy supposedly involves films with a higher budget than Batgirl had. The studio is looking to make films with budgets starting at around $90 million, whereas Batgirl was created using a budget of $70 million.
Warner Bros Statement
A Warner Bros spokesperson said “The decision to not release Batgirl reflects our leadership’s strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO Max. Leslie Grace is an incredibly talented actor and this decision is not a reflection of her performance.“
The film was initially expected to release in 2023. But following this decision it will not be available anywhere, even on streaming services.
The film, which was directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, did not receive any attention at the recent Comic-Con in San Diego. Of course, Its absence is now easy to understand in light of the cancellation.
Meanwhile, DC has not confirmed any cancellation for The Flash. The movie stars Ezra Miller, who has been making headlines for increasingly bizarre acts in recent months. The film is still expected to release in 2023.
