According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Borderlands movie adaptation will soon begin filming in Hungary.
According to head of Hungarian production services Adam Goodman, the Borderlands movie is one of several productions that will start shooting in the European country sometime pretty soon.
Other productions that will soon begin shooting in Hungary include season three of the Jack Ryan TV series, and even a secret Marvel project.
“We’re opened up space for a Lionsgate film, Borderlands, we’re doing season three of Jack Ryan for Paramount TV, and we’re doing a Marvel project, which, for the usual security reasons, I can’t talk about,” said Goodman.
Since the global COVID-19 pandemic it seems that Hungary has become a hotspot for filming. Many including the likes of Dune.
“It’s remarkable, really, given all of the challenges that we’ve faced since this crisis began, that we’ve managed to keep going,” says Goodman.
The Borderlands movie will be directed by Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, Inglorious Basterds, Hostel), but other than that, few details are known.
While details are quite scarce at this time, it’s reported that Cate Blanchett will play Lilith. Kevin Hart is also a tipped to appear as Roland.
In a press release from Lionsgate last year, Eli Roth issued the following statement on the Borderlands movie announcement:
“I’m so excited to dive into the world of Borderlands and I could not be doing it with a better script, producing team, and studio. I have a long, successful history with Lionsgate – I feel like we have grown up together and that everything in my directing career has led to a project of this scale and ambition.
“I look forward to bringing my own energy, ideas, and vision to the wild, fun, and endlessly creative world of the game. Randy Pitchford and everyone at Gearbox have been incredibly supportive of my ideas – it really feels like a perfect storm of creators coming together. We are out to make a new classic, one which the fans of the game will love, but also one which will find new audiences globally.”
