Call of Duty is apparently the main reason why gamers buy a PlayStation console. That’s at least according to a recent survey.
There’s no question that Call of Duty is one of the most popular video game franchises ever. In fact, its popularity has only increased since the introduction of battle royale, Warzone in March 2020.
Is PlayStation the home of Call of Duty?
Ever since Microsoft made the first steps to acquire Call of Duty publisher Activision Blizzard in January 2020, there’s been a tug-of-war between Xbox and PlayStation. At the centre of that war has been Call of Duty.
To shorten a long story, Sony is concerned that if/when Microsoft acquires Activision, it will have too much of a firm grip on the video game industry. What’s more, it would essentially make Call of Duty a first-party property of Microsoft.
Furthermore, Sony is also concerned that if Call of Duty becomes available on Xbox Game Pass, it will sway gamers away from the PlayStation brand. This is despite the fact that due to an existing deal, Call of Duty isn’t able to come to Xbox Game Pass for a number of years. Regardless of whether the Microsoft deal is successful or not.

Oh, Microsoft has also reportedly offered both PlayStation and Nintendo 10-year deals to ensure that Call of Duty remains on the respective consoles for at least a decade.
However, if the recent survey is anything to go by, does Sony have a point? As reported by Push Square, in the survey conducted by the UK’s CMA (Competitions and Markets Authority), 73% of PlayStation gamers said they choose the console brand for Call of Duty.
That’s a huge chunk of players!
Furthermore, a survey from the CMA also claimed that 69% (nice) of players choose PlayStation for its exclusive titles. Which would include the likes of God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West as well as upcoming titles such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. What’s more, 45% of gamers choose PlayStation for GTA 5.
Of course, these statistics may come as a surprise, however, they should also be taken with a pinch of salt. Survey statistics can vary depending on the pool of people asked such as location, age, and gaming tastes.
