Call of Duty could one day be heading to the Nintendo Switch. That’s as long as Microsoft gets its wish and Nintendo agrees.
Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, questions have been asked in regard to multiplatform titles. Revealed in the recent weeks, it seems that Call of Duty titles will remain multiplatform, while other titles may be exclusive to Xbox.
Call of Duty remaining multiformat was music to many ears of PlayStation fans. However, perhaps not so much for fans of other platforms. This is simply because Call of Duty isn’t available on most other consoles such as the Nintendo Switch.
It’s been a long time coming
If memory serves me correct, the last Call of Duty games to release on a Nintendo system were Ghosts and Black Ops 2 for the Wii U. However, that might change in the future, that’s if Microsoft gets its way.
When speaking to CNBC, Microsoft president Brad Smith said: “We’d like to bring [Call of Duty] to Nintendo devices. We’d like to bring the other popular titles that Activision Blizzard has and ensure that they continue to be available on PlayStation, [and] that they become available on Nintendo.”
Now it’s one thing Microsoft wanting to bring the Call of Duty series to the Nintendo Switch, but it’s another thing making it a reality. Ultimately, the decision comes down to Nintendo.
Can it happen?
The other question is, which Call of Duty games will run on the Nintendo Switch to an acceptable standard. If recent titles such as Vanguard, Black Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare (2019) were to launch on the Switch, they would have to make some quality allowances.
However, if it is possible to at least get the free-to-play battle royale, Warzone to run on the Switch, I am sure it will please a lot of Nintendo fans. At the very least, I would love to see the original Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 remasters on Nintendo’s hybrid console.
