When developer CD Projekt Red last delayed Cyberpunk 2077, the team explained in a statement that the challenges of bringing the huge RPG to seven different consoles was proving to be its biggest hurdle.

These challenges (thrown into the mix of a global pandemic) meant that the game would suffer yet another delay, this time pushing it back from a November to a December release.

Following the most recent delay there were rumblings on the internet that most of the challenges that CD Projekt Red was facing were due to getting Cyberpunk 2077 to perform well on PS4 and Xbox One.

With the PC and new-gen versions reportedly ready to ship, the news that last-gen consoles could be the issue caused many gamers to call for the PS4 and Xbox One versions to be scrapped.

While I can see logic in what was said, it would not only be unfair to the millions of gamers who haven’t been able to pick-up a new-gen console, but it would also be a backtrack of the promises made by CD Projekt Red.

We still have a right to be cautious as to how the massive RPG will perform on last-gen consoles and it’s why I really appreciate the dedication from the developers to ensure that this game is the best it can be, regardless of platform.

In a recent earnings call with investors, CDPR CEO Adam Kiciński eased the concerns of not only investors but also fans alike.

PS5 is great. PS4 is still very good,” said Kiciński. “I mean, we had those extra three weeks and we achieved a lot within this final stretch. So, we believe that the game is performing great on every platform.

Elaborating further on the performance of Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 and Xbox One, Kiciński said that the last-gen versions are running “surprisingly well”.

In terms of last-gen consoles, the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X are expected to perform better then the basic consoles. Kiciński elaborated: “Of course, a bit lower than on Pros, but surprisingly good, I would say for such a huge world,

Just recently a new gameplay video was released that showcased both PS4 and PS5 footage both of which are looking great in my opinion.
