Cyberpunk 2077 Launch Has Lost CDPR Founders $1BN, Says Report

According to a report from Bloomberg, the founders of development studio CD Projekt Red have lost a whopping $1 billion due to Cyberpunk 2077’s troubled launch.

Cyberpunk 2077 has barely been out for a week and not only is it said to have cost founders $1 billion already, but analysts estimate that a further four million unit sales could be lost over the next 12 months.

Even before Cyberpunk 2077 released on December 10th 2020 it had suffered multiple delays and even with the extra development time the game launched with loads of reported bugs and glitches.

The launch of the game was so bad that it resulted in CD Projekt Red issuing a statement to apologise for the release state of the game, in particular with the versions that released for the base PS4 and Xbox One.

That apology opened up another can of worms to add to the already mounting list of issues coming CDRP’s way.

According to Bloomberg, CDPR shares have dropped by a third with the founders’ 34% stake being valued at $3 billion as of Tuesday this week.

An analyst also predicted that the estimated 30 million unit copies over the next 12 months will drop to 25.6 million, a potential 4.4 million unit loss.

I don’t even work at CD Projekt Red, but I just wish they’d find a way for this mountain of problems to stop and hopefully they will soon for everyone’s sake.

If you want some good news related to Cyberpunk 2077 there is some floating around, though it really does depend on your perspective. Fans have discovered that it’s illegal to put pineapple on pizza in Nighty City! Is that good news? Well…it’s news, at least.
