Cyberpunk 2077 Devs ‘Didn’t Believe It Was Ready To Launch In 2020’

According to a report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, some developers at CD Projekt Red believed that Cyberpunk 2077 wasn’t ready for its December 10th 2020 launch date.

At this stage I don’t think that you even have to be a fan of CDPR to know that Cyberpunk 2077 launched in a very poor state. The base versions that were released on PS4 and Xbox One were, in particular, the worst culprits.

In the Bloomberg report, Schreier claims to have spoken to 20 individuals, some of whom no longer work at CDPR. Apparently all but one of the 20 sources remained anonymous.

The report claims that the developers that Schreier had spoken to believed that Cyberpunk 2077 would not be ready to release until 2022, which was based upon the studio’s progress with the game back in 2019.

However the head of CD Projekt Red, Adam Badowski has hit back at the report from Schreier. Badowski thanked Schreier for the article, but called into question the authenticity of his sources.

I’ve read your piece and tweets, thank you for the read. I have some thoughts,” said Badowski in a tweet.

Replying to the claim that “Most of the staff knew and said it wouldn’t be ready for release in 2020,” Badowski said the following: “You’ve talked with 20 people, some being ex-employees, only 1 of whom is not anonymous. I wouldn’t call that ‘most’ of the over 500-people staff openly said what you claim.

In my opinion, while I can’t add to the authenticity of Schreier’s sources, I believe that most who has played Cyberpunk 2077 know that it wasn’t ready for release. That is made extra clear by the recent statement released by CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwiński.

What are your thoughts on Cyberpunk 2077 and should the game have skipped its 2020 launch for yet another delay?
