At this time we don’t know a great deal about Avowed, the forthcoming action-RPG from the Obsidian Entertainment, but the developer alone is enough to get excited for. Obsidian is the creator of some of the most adored games of all time, including Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, Fallout: New Vegas, South Park: The Stick of Truth and, more recently, The Outer Worlds. Though details on the next RPG from Obsidian are thin on the ground, we do know a little. So without further ado, here is everything we know (and what we think we know) about Avowed.
What is Avowed About?
We don’t know any plot specifics about Avowed, but we do know that it will be set in the world of Eora, a location that is from another Obsidian Entertainment RPG, Pillars of Eternity. The story is also expected to have a heavy focus on a war with the Gods and oppression.
You can check out the official announcement trailer, showcased in summer 2020, below!
What Can We Expect from its Setting?
Avowed is an open-world game with rumours claiming that the story will begin in “The Living Lands region of Eora”, before being introduced to more cities, villages and factions of its world. According to the same source of rumours, Eora will be “much larger than Skyrim” with the world also being more “dense” than the beloved Bethesda RPG.
Where Can You Play Avowed?
It’s pretty much a-given that Avowed will come to PC, and while many might hope that it will be a multi-platform title, it’s not clear when it comes to a console release. With Obsidian Entertainment being owned by Microsoft, it’s more than likely that Avowed will be an Xbox console exclusive, and the website currently touts a release for PC and Xbox Series X.
What Kind of Gameplay Can We Expect?
We can expect Avowed to be a first-person action-RPG which comprises both melee and magical combat. As it’s an RPG we can also expect player progression, a skill-tree, magic spells, character creation and perhaps even a crafting system. It is also possible that Avowed will feature some form of multiplayer.
As we don’t know too many facts about Avowed, much of what we think we know is based upon rumour – and there are already loads of rumours about the forthcoming Obsidian RPG.
Other then the rumours of the world being bigger than Skyrim, the standout rumours for me are that Avowed will feature a real-time weather system. The game will also reportedly feature companions similar to that of The Outer Worlds, and mod support that will primarily be created on PC, but the created mods will also be made available to Xbox players. You can check out the recent list of rumours here.
When will Avowed Release?
This we don’t know at the time of writing. When Avowed was revealed during the Xbox Showcase event in July 2020, the trailer seemed to feature a mixture of pre-rendered footage and in-engine footage, giving us little clue to when it might release.
When you consider that we know very few official details about Avowed, it’s safe to assume that development is still in its very early stages of production. So with that said it seems very likely that the rumours of a late 2022/early 2023 release could be true.
So there we have it, that’s everything we know about Avowed so far. Are you excited to learn more about Avowed in the coming months? React accordingly via our Emoji’s below.
