God of War Ragnarok director wants to make a new Castlevania

God of War Ragnarok director has stated that he wants to make a new Castlevania game. Are you listening, Konami?

Speaking on Kinda Funny ‘Spoilercast’, God of War director Eric Williams said he would love to help bring back the Castlevania series. Adding that fans can help to “make it happen”.

We’d love to see a new Castlevania from God of War developers!

You guys can make it happen because you have the audience of the world here… I don’t know what I’m doing next, but if somebody gives me that Castlevania licence, we would love to make that,” said Williams.

However, we’re not sure whether Williams was being serious or not with the following comments, but he also said: “I just got into so much trouble!” Make of that what you will.

Could Santa Monica develop the next Castlevania?

Up until the recent Silent Hill reveals, we would rule out the possibility of Konami outsourcing the Castlevania licence. However, as we now know, Konami has outsourced Silent Hill to a variety of third-party developers, including Bloober Team who are handling the Silent Hill 2 remake.

If Konami was to outsource the Castlevania licence to a developer, Santa Monica Studio would be a perfect candidate. However, if there was a negative should Santa Monica Studio develop a new Castlevania, it would likely be a PlayStation exclusive.

After all, the God of War series is one of the best action adventure, hack-and-slash franchises of all time. This form of gameplay was even more prominent prior to God of War (2018), which in turn, elevated the storytelling for the series as a whole.

The Castlevania series is one of the most iconic and beloved video game properties of all time. It was first released for the NES way back in 1986 and has seen many sequels and iterations since that time.

However, the last Castlevania game to release was Lords of Shadow 2 in 2014 for PC, PS3 as well as Xbox 360. Unfortunately, unlike Lords of Shadow (2010), its sequel wasn’t as well received.

It’s been nearly 10 years since Castlevania had a new game!

According to Metacritic, the first Lords of Shadow had a Metascore between 81 to 85, depending on the platform. While LOS2 scored much lower between 50 to 70, depending on the platform.

So, are the failings of Lords of Shadow 2 a reason for Konami’s reluctance to bring back this series? We can only guess. However, what we can say is that fans would love to see Castlevania make a triumphant return and we’re not talking about NFTs, ok Konami!
