Nintendo fans are hopeful that a new Legend of Zelda game is headed to the Switch, and no, I don’t mean Breath of the Wild 2.

A trademark filed by Nintendo just last month seems to suggest the company has big plans for the game series’ 35th anniversary, which will be happening next year. As spotted by Twitter user @NaZyrus07 [via ComicBook] the hefty trademark covers a huge range of merchandising options, including everything from clothing and games to…dental floss?
You can see the full – and exhaustive – list in the tweet below.
While the trademark doesn’t directly mean a new game is on the cards, it does look as though Nintendo is gearing up for a big year of Zelda merch in 2021.
Earlier this month, gamers uncovered a recent Zelda trademark filing from Nintendo, one which reportedly referenced Ocarina of Time. However, this was purely in Australia and Europe, and it was speculatively believed that this was Nintendo simply securing its IP in those areas to avoid the trademark expiring.
It’s not clear whether the two trademark filings are linked.

At the very least, it’s looking as though 2021 is going to be jam-packed with a whole host of new Legend of Zelda merchandise, which is definitely a win in my book. It’s hard to imagine that the game series’ 35th anniversary will go unmarked by Nintendo, so perhaps we’ll be treated to another re-release akin to The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, which was remade for the Switch earlier this year.

As always with leaks and speculation, take it with a pinch of salt until we hear more. But in case you’re hearing us Nintendo, bring Wind Waker to Switch please!
As for Breath of the Wild 2, we’re still waiting on news, though we’ve sadly heard nothing since its reveal trailer during E3 2019.
