Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us remake will reportedly release this Christmas, that’s according to the latest rumours.
It’s not the first time we’ve heard rumours of a remake, despite the original game only releasing less than 10 years ago. Rumours of the remake first started to make the rounds in April 2021 courtesy of Jason Schreier of Bloomberg.
Furthermore, other rumours claimed that The Last of Us remake would “harness the power” of the PlayStation 5. However, more recently, reports also suggested that the remake could release sooner than we think.
“I keep hearing that’s coming out this year,” said Grubb. “The Last of Us remake [could release] this holiday,” adding “I’m pretty confident about that too.”
Do we need a remake?
Obviously, these rumours are unconfirmed, so we must take them with a pinch of salt. That being said, as I often say, there’s no smoke without fire.
The Last of Us originally launched back in 2013. It was the final swan song of the PlayStation 3 before the PS4 launched later that year, and received an official remaster a year later that brought in new enhancements such as higher framerates and improved multiplayer.
It was then followed by The Last of Us Part 2 in 2020, which also quickly became a critics’ favourite, having racked up over 300 awards in the year of its release.
