The Mass Effect games are one of the biggest IPs belonging to BioWare, but when will we see a new game? According to one industry insider, early development is already underway for Mass Effect 5, meaning it’s more than likely going to be coming to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett.
Kotaku’s Jason Schreier is well-known for his almost-always accurate insider video games news, and this time he’s claiming that a fifth Mass Effect game is happening.

In a recent article about BioWare’s Anthem, Schreier writes that a new ME title is being developed at the Edmonton studio of the company. He also claims the project is being directed by Mike Gamble, who has served as a producer on many of the ME games.
It seems there’s definitely something to the idea, as this isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumblings about a new addition to the franchise. Earlier this year, it was reported that BioWare still has something in the works for the series.

BioWare Executive producer Mark Darrah spoke about a potential new Mass Effect, and told Polygon at the time: “We could pull on the threads we put down with Andromeda; we could pull on threads from Mass Effect 3. There’s a lot of interesting space to be explored.”
His sentiments were echoed by Anthem‘s general manager Casey Hudson, who added: “In my mind, it’s very much alive. I’m thinking all the time about things that I think will be great. It’s just a matter of getting back to it as soon as we can.”

Last year, when celebrating N7 Day, Gamble himself wrote: “Happy #N7Day to everyone! I love this IP deeply, and we’ve grown together over the years as fans and developers in it. We still have stories left to tell in this universe…the future is bright”
We’re still waiting for official confirmation of the game, but it’s looking pretty likely. Here’s hoping!
