Naughty Dog Hiring For Standalone Multiplayer Game

The Last of Us and Uncharted studio Naughty Dog is hiring for new roles to work on its standalone multiplayer game.

In March this year, Naughty Dog advertised for an in-house position for an Economy Designer. It was believed that judging by the job description, this stand-alone game would be for a live-service title.

The job description in March required would-be candidates to: “create avenues for self-expression for our players, ensure robust longevity to our games, and give our players great rewards to strive for.

According to the new job description this will be Naughty Dog’s “first standalone multiplayer game”.

As reported by VGC, the new roles at Naughty Dog are for a gameplay scripter and level designer. Despite the title being a multiplayer game, the job description reads: “Naughty Dog’s newest adventure” indicating the game might have story elements.

What is Naughty Dog looking for?

We’re seeking to bring the same level of ambition and quality of our signature, story-driven games to this unique multiplayer project. This is a rare opportunity to make an impact in your discipline and craft an experience that will be enjoyed and shared by millions of players around the world.

While the title or theme of this standalone game hasn’t been detailed yet, it’s largely assumed that it will be the rumoured “Factions” multiplayer for The Last of Us: Part 2.

Could Factions be returning?

Factions was initially a multiplayer mode included in the first The Last of Us. It was a fun mode that required players to work together to not only defeat opponents but also to earn resources for their respective Faction to level it up.

Factions multiplayer mode was a lot of fun, sadly it never really caught on as well as it perhaps should. Hopefully, whatever this new multiplayer mode will be, it will have better luck this time.
