New Aliens single player game sounds like Alien Isolation 2

A new Aliens single player game is on the way and it sounds a lot like Alien Isolation 2. However, I wouldn’t get too excited, just yet.

Alien Isolation was released nearly eight years ago in 2014. Yes, it’s really been that long. Developed by Creative Assembly, it was in a very different direction from the studio. While not exclusively developing RTS games, Creative Assembly is best known for the Total War series.

Prior to Alien Isolation’s release, many had their doubts. Could a studio primarily known for RTS games develop a scary, top-quality first-person horror? Furthermore, could they do the Alien(s) licence the justice it deserved.

After all, there have been countless video games over the years based upon the Alien(s) franchise. Unfortunately, most of those games did the franchise a disservice. Thankfully, however, Alien Isolation was not only a brilliant Alien game, but it went on to be one of the best horror games of all time. At least in my opinion.

What exactly is this new Aliens game?

Like Alien Isolation, this new Aliens game is set between the 1979 Alien movie by Ridley Scott and James Cameron’s Aliens from 1986.

Are there other similarities to Isolation?

This Aliens game will be a single player title. Additionally, as this will also be released for VR, it’s safe to assume that it will be from a first-person perspective.

The Aliens game is also said to be an “action-horror”. The vast majority of Alien Isolation was slow-paced, which helped build up its tension.

While you were able to use firearms, opportunities were few and far between. Sure, you can have a shoot-out with humans and androids, however, that would quickly draw the attention of the Xenomorph.

Still, despite being slow-paced and heavily stealth-focused, Alien Isolation is described as a first-person, action-adventure, stealth horror. However, I would at the very least take out action-adventure, and I’d describe it more as a first-person stealth horror.

So, with that in mind, it’s not outside the realms of possibility that the new Aliens game will take inspiration from Isolation. However, I’d be somewhat surprised if it was an Isolation-inspired game.

Alien Isolation leans more towards Ridley Scott’s 1979 movie. If I was going to take a guess, I’d say this new Aliens game might lean more towards James Cameron’s 1986 movie. But I could be wrong.

Furthermore, the new Aliens game is plural, suggesting that there will be more than one Xenomorph, which makes me believe that it will be more likely inspired by James Cameron’s classic action horror.

What else do we need to know?

The upcoming Aliens game will be developed by Survios, an LA, California-based studio. In the past, this studio has primarily developed VR games. Its back catalogue includes the likes of Creed: Rise to Glory, The Walking Dead Onslaught as well as Puzzle Bobble VR: Vacation Odyssey.

At this time, the Aliens game in question has no release window or exact platforms detailed. However, we do know that it will be released for VR, PC and console.

Other than Alien Isolation, we have had the release of Aliens: Fireteam Elite, which is a multiplayer shooter. Sadly, the hype for Aliens: Fireteam Elite quickly faded following its launch. According to SteamDB, only 360 people are playing Aliens: Fireteam Elite at the time of writing.

Furthermore, Aliens Dark Descent was also announced earlier this year at Summer Game Fest. Developed by Tindalos Interactive, Aliens: Dark Descent is a top-down, single player squad-based action game.

Aliens Dark Descent will be released in 2023.
