New PS5 Remote Play App Sneaks Onto PlayStation 4

This week a new PS5 Remote Play app has appeared on PlayStation 4 consoles. The surprise addition to the PS4’s homescreen has been spotted by a number of players ahead of the launch of PS5.

I, like many other gamers, found the app to be on my dashboard without me ever downloading it.

Personally I wouldn’t have chosen to download this app at this time because I won’t be able to get my PlayStation 5 console until next year. So thank you for that reminder Sony.

It seems that I wasn’t the only one unhappy that this app had infiltrated my PS4, as reflected by some reactions on Twitter with one tweet reading “What the hell is this on my PS4?

Remote Play is already a feature available on the PlayStation 4 which allows you to stream your PS4 games to your mobile device or PS Vita.

The Remote Play is something that works rather well from PS4 to mobile especially when you link your DualShock 4 controller to your mobile device via Bluetooth.

However what this PlayStation 5 Remote Play app will do is allow you to connect your PS5 console to a PS4 console via a stream.

To enable the PS5 Remote Play app on your PS5 console you must first go to your settings, select Remote Play and then Enable Remote Play.

Once your PlayStation 5 console is connected to the PlayStation 4 you’ll be able to stream and switch between 540p, 720p and 1080p resolutions.

If you have your PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 console side-by-side it might be unlikely that you’d want to stream PS4 games to your PS5 if both consoles are in the same room and connected to the same TV.

However when I am finally able to pick up a PlayStation 5 next year, I’ll likely move the PlayStation 4 console into my bedroom.

So if the TV was being used upstairs and for example I wanted to play PES 2021 which isn’t available on PS5, I could stream that game via my PS4 library from my bedroom into my PS5 console located in my living room.
