New Ratchet & Clank Game ‘Releasing This Year As PS5 Launch Title’

With the next generation of console gaming on the horizon, speculations have begun surrounding which titles they’ll be launching with. According to new reports, we could be seeing a return of beloved PlayStation franchise, Ratchet & Clank, launching alongside the PlayStation 5.

The rumour comes from video games journalist Colin Moriarty [via ComicBook]. Moriarty shared his supposed insider knowledge during an episode of  Sacred Symbols+: Episode XXVI: The Waiting Game, saying that Ratchet & Clank will be coming sooner rather than later.

“We’re going to get a Ratchet and Clank in-between that [Spider-Man 2018 and its sequel) on PlayStation 5,” said Moriarty.

“I feel like that’s going to be a launch game, the Ratchet and Clank game that’s long been in development at Insomniac.”

Back in April of last year, we reported on a similar story from Moriarty, when the Kinda Funny host teased that “we haven’t seen the last of Ratchet and Clank on the PS4.”

Could the beloved franchise really be headed to the PlayStation 5?

At the time of writing, one of the only confirmed new PS5 titles is Godfall, which was unveiled to the world during The Game Awards 2019.

Described as a “looter-slasher,” Godfall isn’t a PS5 exclusive, and will be available on the Epic Games Store when it launches in 2020.

The upcoming game is seemingly a bit of a mish-mash of beloved genres, and essentially looks like a fantasy role-playing game with third-person melee combat. You can play it solo, duo or three-player co-op.

In a statement, president of Gearbox Publishing, Steve Gibson said: “We’re thrilled at Gearbox to have been chosen by Counterplay Games to bring their creative vision of Godfall to gamers on the PlayStation 5 and PC.

“As we continue our mission to entertain the world, Godfall is a perfect fit with Gearbox Publishing. Playing with your friends and gearing up are some of the things we love most.”
