A new Resident Evil movie has just been revealed by Deadline, and it sounds like it might actually be alright.

According to the publication, the movie will be an “official origin story adaptation with faithful ties to Capcom’s classic survival horror games.” The story will take place in Raccoon City in 1998, and will star some pretty well-known faces.

Maze Runner and Skins star Kaya Scodelario has officially been cast in the role of the one and only Claire Redfield. Hannah John-Kamen best known for Ant-Man and the Wasp is also signed up to the project, and will be playing Jill Valentine.

Other confirmed cast members include Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper as Albert Wesker and Avan Jogia as Leon S. Kennedy. Neal McDonough will be playing the role of William Birkin.

Constantin Film will be spearheading the production. Writer-director Johannes Roberts told the publication: “With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences.”

Could this be the Resident Evil movie we’ve been waiting for? It already sounds a heck of a lot better than the Netflix show which was announced earlier this summer…

Netflix has confirmed that an eight-part series based on Capcom’s Resident Evil is coming to the streaming platform.

Netflix’s official synopsis reads as follows: “When the Wesker kids move to New Raccoon City, the secrets they uncover might just be the end of everything. Resident Evil, a new live action series based on Capcom’s legendary survival horror franchise, is coming to Netflix.”

I think we’ll wait for the Constantin Film movie!
