A new job listing from Santa Monica Studio hints that the next God of War could have a distinctly more Asian flavour. As spotted by GamesRadar, the Sony studio is looking to fill two positions: Assistant Cinematic Director and Cinematic Artist, and the job listings are very interesting.
Both of the descriptions state that the roles will involve Santa Monica Studio’s motion capture shooting, and both also add that “experience in martial-arts [sic] or dance” would be ideal.
Of course, the iconic God of War games are pretty far away from martial arts or dance in terms of gameplay, but who knows where Kratos’ next adventure will take him? Martial arts definitely suggests that whatever the new hires’ project might be, we could be looking at an Eastern Asian setting.
Whether or not the job listings are for a sequel to the 2018 smash-hit God of War, or if Santa Monica is hiring for a new project entirely remains to be seen. As always, all we can do is speculate.
Earlier this year, the Sony Santa Monica careers website was almost definitely looking for new staff to help with the God of War sequel. With roles ranging from combat design to narrative help, there was a surprising amount of evidence out there in the open for all to see.
One of the roles advertised which looked for a Senior Combat Designer stated that applicants “must have knowledge of God of War (2018) and be able to speak in depth about the combat systems, mechanics and enemies.”
If it walks like God of War and it talks like God of War, it’s probably God of War…
We don’t know too much about the next game in the series, but it’s more than likely coming to the PlayStation 5 rather than 4.
