Nintendo Files Trademarks For ‘Pokémon HeartGold’ & ‘Pokémon SoulSilver’

Nintendo has been pretty busy with the trademarks lately, and though some aren’t too exciting, there’s a couple that have definitely caught the eyes of players.

Two of those are none other than trademarks reportedly filed by the company for “Pokémon HeartGold” and “Pokémon SoulSilver.” Does this mean we can expect the two Pokémon classics to come to Nintendo Switch? Well…maybe!

As spotted by Twitter user abcboy [via Reddit’s r/gamingleaksandrumours], the trademarks are dates September 7, making them fairly recent. Perhaps noteworthy, the user also who works for beloved Pokémon wiki, Bulbapedia.

Before you hit the floor in shock and excitement, the news comes with a few caveats. Firstly, trademarks do expire, so a company filing a trademark for an existing IP that they already own could simply be to stop it lapsing.

Secondly, a trademark filing might not mean new Switch remakes are happening – it could simply be that Nintendo is aiming to release new merch, items or something else related to the games.

That being said, the timing is definitely suspect. The trademark comes just the day after Nintendo filed a new trademark relating to the game’s Legendary Pokémon, Entei.

In potentially related news, a recent YouTube video from RuffledRowlit references an anonymous leak which claims two new Game Freak titles will release in November 2021.

According to the leak, Game Freak has been hard at work on both titles for quite a while now – which might explain why we first heard these rumours back in October of 2019.

Though the YouTuber isn’t the main source of the anonymous leaks, you can check out their discussion of them in the video below.

Though these were speculated to be Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes, could we actually be looking at a returned to Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver?

Hopefully we’ll hear more on these rumours soon, but for now, take them with a grain of salt as always.
