The Uncharted movie is still apparently happening, but with no news since the start of the global lockdown, the upcoming project is something of a sore spot for Nathan Drake fans.

The movie, which will star Tom Holland as a young Nathan Drake, was set to begin filming earlier this spring before the pandemic put a stop to movie production. The original Mr. Drake himself, Nolan North, who played the character across all of the Uncharted game series, has weighed in on the movie and who he’d want as Nathan if the movie were to be a replica of the games’ stories (to be clear, it’s not).
Speaking with Fandom, North reminisced about the time he spent on Star Trek: Into Darkness, during which he rubbed shoulders (and ate lunch) with the only and only Chris Pine.
“I got to watch Chris Pine work, and [I] sat with him at lunch,” North told the publication. “One time in the makeup trailer I said, ‘If a script called Uncharted ever comes across your agent’s desk you should take a good hard look at it. Because I think you’d be perfect for it.'”
He also went on to say that he’s pretty glad the movie will be taking a different direction than the games, as it won’t be a carbon copy and will instead feature a brand-new story.
Speaking with GameByte back in 2019, North also envisioned the one and only Bryan Cranston in the role of Sully (now to be played by Mark Wahlberg). He told us at the time: “Bryan Cranston would be a fantastic Sully. I know, I’ve said this before, I think the direction they want to take is Drake in his 20s. And they’ll take some artistic license, and I love it, because don’t try and mimic what the games did,

“People always, fans especially, say ‘you should play Drake!’ And I’ve played Drake. I’ve done it, been there, done that. And I cannot play Drake in his 20s, I can’t play anybody in his 20s anymore. And I think Tom Holland will knock it out of the park, he’s charming, he has the right look. Add Bryan Cranston to that kind of a cast and it’s bound to be good.”
Hopefully we’ll soon hear an update on the Uncharted movie!
