Previous seasons of Stranger Things have been edited in secret without anyone realising – until now.
Stranger Things creators the Duffer brothers have revealed that they went back to edit previous episodes of the show due to a mistake they made.
In an interview, the pair talked about a mistake involving Will Byers’ birthday. Originally, the show said his birthday was on March 22nd. But since then, we learned in the most recent season that it was actually in May.
To fix this continuity error, they went back and edited a previous episode where the old birthday was revealed. Now, Joyce Byers says “May” instead of March.
even More edits
The brothers also revealed that when season 4 came out, they had to edit parts of it not long after it was released. The things they changed were just visual effects rather than anything major, but it’s still interesting to know.
Ross Duffer said “Netflix is — I don’t think they’ve ever allowed people to patch on opening week and even weekend. And we said, ‘Well, why not?’ And he said, ‘Well, it makes us nervous.’ And we’re like, ‘Well, maybe we try it this time.’ And it turned out fine.”
It’s kind of cool that creators can go back and edit things in shows now. Previously, those minor mistakes would have been there permanently, but now they can be sorted out. Of course, physical copies of shows will still have the original mistakes in them, so it’s not exactly a perfect solution.
