Perfect Dark developer ‘The Initiative’ has provided an update on the status of the game following the recent Crystal Dynamics acquisition.
Over the weekend, THQ Nordic parent company Embracer Group acquired many of Square Enix’s western studios. The acquisition included current Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics.
The Perfect Dark reboot was first revealed at The Game Awards in 2020. However, while the game had generated a lot of excitement since its announcement, there have been reports of a troubling development.
Is Perfect Dark in trouble?
Reports were making the rounds that not only had Perfect Dark lost its Director, but it had also lost around half of its core development team. Furthermore, Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics were brought in to lend a helping hand to The Initiative.
So, following the acquisition by Embracer Group, some had been wondering how this might impact the development of Perfect Dark. In response to those concerns, The Initiative tweeted to announce that the development partnership with Crystal Dynamics will continue.
“We’re excited to see Crystal Dynamics take these next steps with their studio,” said The Initiative. “Our teams have made great progress in building Perfect Dark together as co-development partners, and we will be continuing this work with them in their next chapter.”
