The last couple of years have seen a surge in the number of video games which include pettable animals. The phenomenon stems from viral Twitter account @CanYouPetTheDog, which shares clips of dogs you can pet in video games (except on Fridays, where the account rules relax and other animals are showcased). The Can You Pet The Dog trend has now evolved thanks to the recently-released itch.io game, Pet The Dog?
From indie developer Retro Room Games, Pet The Dog? is an FMV choose-your-own-adventure game about petting various dogs. Available for both Mac and Windows, this pay-what-you-will game has already made waves online because…well, because dogs.
Pet The Dog? will have you walk around and decide whether or not you want to pet the dogs on offer to you. There’s lots of different good boys and girls who all deserve your pats, so I’m not too sure why you WOULDN’T pet the dogs in this game…?
Pet The Dog? went full circle when it was showcased by the Can You Pet The Dog Twitter account earlier this week. Check out a clip of the game in action via Can You Pet The Dog below.
Excitingly, the developer has teased that Pet The Dog? could come to mobile platforms in the future, suggesting we might soon be able to take our dog petting on the go!
