Sony’s PlayStation 5 is coming soon, like really soon, but we just don’t know HOW soon.
As the current generation of consoles begins to wrap up, Sony’s been looking to the future with the launch of the PS5 which has been suggested to be coming in 2020.

It seems that although there’s enough evidence to point to this being true, it looks like we probably won’t be getting the console in the first few months of 2020.
The Wall Street Journal reporter Takashi Mochizuki recently took to Twitter to share his insider knowledge on the matter, stating that there’ll be “No next-gen PlayStation launch over next 12 months.”
He then tweeted some supposed evidence of this, writing: “[Sony Interactive Entertainment] confirmed to me no next-gen PlayStation console release in FY19, but if you, for some reason, have some doubts about it, here’s another: SIE doesn’t expect increase of marketing cost in FY19.”
Late last year, a Pastebin file claimed to offer a load of new information on the console, and purported to be from a PS5 game developer in Europe.

The supposed dev claims that along with a 2020 release date, the PS5 will cost around $100 USD more than the PlayStation 4 did at launch and will be backwards compatible with PS4 games.
The backwards compatibility has definitely been confirmed as a feature by Sony architect, Mark Cerny. Other features confirmed by Cerny include ray tracing, which is often used in cinema and is sure to make a serious impression for video games.

Cerny also says that Sony is aiming for a 2020 release date, but it’s looking more and more likely that the console will be pushing for a Q4 release so as to hit those holiday season sales numbers.
