PlayStation Announces The ‘Mini PS One’ – Comes With 20 Classic Games

The news that classic PlayStation fans have been waiting for finally dropped this morning – PlayStation will be releasing a mini version of the PlayStation One just in time for Christmas 2018.

Hooray!

Taking a leaf out of Nintendo’s book, the mini console will come pre-loaded with 20 games, but only a handful have been revealed so far.

Sony has announced the games list will include Final Fantasy® VIIJumping Flash!R4 RIDGE RACER TYPE 4Tekken 3 and Wild Arms, but fans are clamouring for their absolute favourite titles *ahem* Silent Hill.

Again similar to the NES and SNES Classic mini consoles from Nintendo, the PS1 will come with two (wired) controllers and sports an HDMI port to connect to your TV. It’ll charge with a USB charger that will – of course – have to be bought separately. Thanks for that, Sony.

The mini PS1 will be 45% smaller than the original on the sides, and 80% smaller in volume. It’ll sport the classic design we all know and love, with the same button layout and even similar packaging.

The console will be available on 3rd December 2018 – exactly 24 years after the original PlayStation One –  and will retail for £89.99 / $99USD.

When the NES Classic launched it became notoriously difficult to get a hold of and it quickly jumped to the top of everyone’s wish list as it became a rare and expensive find.

Although Nintendo did re-release the console, here’s hoping that Sony won’t make the same mistake.

As for the 20 preloaded games we’re not sure when the full list will be announced, but if it’s going to be similar to the NES and SNES then people are definitely going to be finding a way to mod the console to add on whichever titles they like.

What are you opinions on the PlayStation One Classic? Will you be picking one up? What games would you most like to see included?
