PlayStation Boss Is ‘Hopeful’ PS5 Stock Supply Will Improve This Year

PlayStation boss Jim Ryan has said that he is hopeful the PS5 stock supply will improve by the end of this year.

Despite launching in November 2020, getting hold of a PlayStation 5 (or Xbox Series X) is no easy task. Sony has struggled to keep up with demand even when the PS5 was only available to pre-order and the stock issues still continue five months later.

Thankfully Jim Ryan hopes that stock supplies will improve this year and hopes to “see production ramping up over the summer”.

We’re working as hard as we can to ameliorate that situation,” said Ryan talking to Wired. “We see production ramping up over the summer and certainly into the second half of the year, and we would hope to see some sort of return to normality in terms of the balance between supply and demand during that period.

I’m sure many of us hope that Sony will soon be able to keep up with the demand for the PlayStation 5, however, we’re always hearing conflicting reports. Earlier this week, Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki told Bloomberg that the PS5 stock shortage might continue into 2022.

I don’t think demand is calming down this year and even if we secure a lot more devices and produce many more units of the PS5 next year, our supply wouldn’t be able to catch up with demand,” said Totoki.

It’s anyone’s guess as to whether the PS5 stock supply will improve anytime soon, however, let’s hope that more demand can be met by the time we hit Christmas this year.
