Sony has confirmed that PlayStation will not be at Gamescom this year. The news was revealed in a statement issued to a German outlet.
Sony Interactive Entertainment issued the statement to Games Wirtschaft, in which a spokesperson detailed that the console giant will not be attending the convention in August.
Major publishers are no-showing
This will be a major blow for Gamescom as Nintendo, Activision Blizzard,, andTake-Two Interactive have already confirmed that they will not be at the German video games show.
According to an article from VGC, it is believed the reason big publishers are no-showing is due to some no longer planning large-scale demo presentations following the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The news comes in the wake of Gamescom returning to an in-person show for the first time since the pandemic. However, the organisers of Gamescom claim that over 250 companies will be attending the event. So hopefully there will still be plenty of gaming goodness to go around.
When does Gamescom take place?
Gamescom will be hosted in Cologne, Germany. It will take place between August 24th to August 28th. Furthermore, the event will kick off with Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 23rd.
In my opinion, it makes sense for both PlayStation and Nintendo not to be at Gamescom.
Both companies have their own State of Play and Nintendo Direct events respectively, which generate a lot of hype. So why use financial extra resources when they can keep everything in-house?

Speaking of State of Play, it is rumoured that we’ll get to see more God of War Ragnarok later this month and hopefully even a release date.
