Update 08/06: It appears the next-gen upgrades for these Resident Evil titles could come as early as next week.
The Twitter account PlayStation Game Size posts updates on new games that have been added to the database, including storage capacity sizes, indicating an upcoming release.
Yesterday, on June 7th, the account posted updates on Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 7. The poster also hints that news could be “soon”, indicating that it might come next week during the Capcom Showcase.
Original story: The Resident Evil new-gen upgrades could release sooner than we think, as suggested by an apparent error on the PS Network.
The apparent error was discovered and shared by Resident Evil fan and Twitter user, TheBatMan. Though I doubt this is actually Batman’s account, otherwise he’d be leaving himself seriously exposed to Joker and Riddler shenanigans. Anyway, I’m going off-topic.
After loading up the Resident Evil 3 remake for PlayStation 4 on PS5, TheBatMan was notified with an option to upgrade to the enhanced version. However, despite there being an “option,” it was not actually possible to play the new-gen version of Resident Evil 3.
Why couldn’t the new-gen RE3 version be played?
It’s not possible to play the enhanced new-gen version yet, simply because this version of the game hasn’t been released. Back in March 2022, Capcom announced that new-gen versions of the RE2 and RE3 remakes, as well as RE7, will arrive to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
At the time of the announcement, it was revealed that the enhanced versions will have improved visuals, ray-tracing, performance and loading times. Furthermore, on PS5, players will also be able to take advantage of 3D Audio and the DualSense controllers Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers.
Additionally, it was also confirmed that your save progress will be transferred from the last-gen to new-gen systems. Oh, and if you already own the last-gen versions, you get the new-gen upgrade for free. Happy days!
As mentioned previously, save data and progress from the original PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of these games will carry over to their respective upgraded versions. DLC purchased separately and DLC included with Resident Evil 7 Gold Edition will transfer over, as well.

What does this apparent error mean?
In truth, it could all mean nothing. After all, it could just be a simple error. However, if it’s not just an error, it could mean that the enhanced versions of these Resident Evil games could arrive sooner than we thought.
