A ton of Capcom details have reportedly leaked, including supposed news on the Resident Evil Village release date and – a battle royale mode?
Before we begin, we must stress that at this stage all the information and sources are unconfirmed rumours. However as some say “there’s no smoke without fire.”
The leaked information apparently comes via discovered source code from Capcom ,which was shared on a Reddit post.
So let’s begin with Resident Evil. At this time we only know that Resident Evil Village will release for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2021. However according to the latest rumours, the release date of Resident Evil Village will be April of 2021.
Prior to its launch, Capcom is apparently considering a playable demo, which is something they’ve also done with Resident Evil 7, as well as the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes.
Rumours have also been floating around for a while that Capcom was looking at ways to release Resident Evil Village on PS4 and Xbox One. According to these new leaks, that will happen.
Apparently Sony has also paid Capcom $5 million USD for exclusivity deals for RE Village, relating to VR being exclusive to PSVR. This backs up previous claims of timed DLC and the playable demo being a PlayStation exclusive.
It is also reported that Google has paid Capcom $10 million USD to bring both Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village to Google Stadia.
The Resident Evil Village rumours don’t stop there though, because there will apparently be a Collector’s Edition.
This Collector’s Edition will reportedly include a Chris Redfield statue similar to that of the Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine statues included in the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes respectively.
Source code was also found that hinted that RE: Village might have a multiplayer mode known internally as “Project Highway/Village Online.” It is rumoured that this multiplayer mode might be a battle royale of sorts.
The source code also reveals a map for Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, a 2007 on-rails shooter. Could this mean that Umbrella Chronicles and The Darkside Chronicles (2009) might get another re-release, this time for VR?
If you thought that was the end of the Resident Evil rumour mill then think again because there may even be yet another release of Resident Evil 4 this time for VR.
Personally, the version of RE4 that was released on the Wii in 2007 worked great with the motion controls so it might also be fun played in VR.
Outside of Resident Evil, the source code leak also supposedly revealed something related to Devil May Cry 2.
This is a game in the series that isn’t looked upon fondly largely due to the game allegedly not being 100% complete, with it being rushed out in just four months.
Devil May Cry 2 originally released in 2003 for the PlayStation 2 and then years later as part of the Devil May Cry HD Collection across multiple platforms.
If DMC2 does get a remaster of sorts, I’d love it to be the full version of the game, a “Director’s Cut” if you will because this 2003 rush-job certainly deserved better in my opinion.
Also listed in the same pile of rumours is that an Ace Attorney Collection might be coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. We might even be getting an Ace Attorney series coming to either Netflix or Amazon Prime Video.
A Monster Hunter Rise game is also apparently coming to PC as well as two new IP’s, one with the codename “GUILLOTINE” and the other is a streamer friendly multiplayer shooter dubbed “SHIELD”.
As I mentioned earlier these are all unconfirmed rumours so they must be taken with a pinch of salt.
