Legendary video game music composer Akira Yamaoka has teased a new project which will be revealed this summer. Will it be Silent Hill? We hope it’s Silent Hill!
In an interview with Saudi Arabian media outlet Al Hub [via PSU], Akira Yamaoka revealed that a new project will be announced “sometime around the summer” but that’s not the exciting bit. The exciting bit was the wording he used, telling the publication it will be a game “people have been hoping to hear about.”
At the time of writing, the original interview has been removed, perhaps suggesting Yamaoka spoke too soon about the project.
Yamaoka is one of the most well-known composers in the industry. While he has worked on video games such as Shadow of the Damned, Lollipop Chainsaw and Killer is Dead, Yamaoka is best known for his work on Silent Hill and, more recently, Xbox exclusive The Medium.
When Yamaoka says that this apparent project is going to be something that “people have been hoping to hear about”, natural assumptions will be drawn to the Silent Hill series.
Sure he could be working on something not related to Silent Hill, but as it’s apparently something that we’ve been waiting to hear about, I doubt it’s a new IP and it’s unlikely to be any of the previous series that Yamaoka has worked on.
I think there’s also something in the fact that the interview which was live as of last night has now been removed from Al Hub. If this project is Silent Hill related, Konami would want to keep it under wraps, which is possibly why the interview has been pulled.
At this stage it’s all speculation, but I really do hope that a new Silent Hill will be announced this year. I’m fed up of seeing crossovers in unrelated horror games such as Dark Deception: Mortals & Monsters!
