Sony has removed a feature from the PS5 which no one really ever used.
The feature in question is the “Accolades” feature which was introduced with the PS5. Accolades were a feature which allowed players to award other players in online games. You could commend another player for their performance, whether they were on your team or on the opposing side.
Accolades had a select few options you could give to other players for certain things. The options were “helpful”, “welcoming” or “good sport”.
The feature was intended to encourage positive interactions between players. If another player was helpful or you enjoyed your time playing with them, you could show it using Accolades. But it turns out that not many people have actually been using it.

Accolades Removed
The removal of the Accolades feature was announced on the PlayStation website. On the site, a new post says “In fall of 2022, the Accolades feature on PlayStation 5 will no longer be supported. The feature hasn’t seen the level of usage we anticipated, so we are refocusing our efforts. We encourage the community to continue to send positive messages to one another.”
It’s kind of a shame that a feature intended to encourage positivity in games hasn’t been used at all. But there are probably better ways to implement it.
Some games have similar features already implemented. For example, League of Legends lets you “honour” players after a match, and you get rewards for being an honourable player. However, it hasn’t really done much to stop the overall toxicity of the players in that particular game.
But hey, at least Sony attempted to do something about the general toxicity in the gaming world. It just wasn’t quite effective enough, and a lot of players probably didn’t even realise it was a thing. Perhaps it’ll be reworked into a new system in the future?
