Steam users have noticed that PlayStation has changed its publisher for PC releases from ‘PlayStation Mobile’ to ‘PlayStation PC LLC’ (thanks, VGC).
This marks a big change for PlayStation. The company has been hesitant about releasing its games on PC for years. But last year, it announced Horizon: Zero Dawn was coming to PC three years after its release on PS4. Days Gone was also released for PC this year, another first party game.
The Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves collection will also be coming sometime in 2022, and God of War has a confirmed release date of January 14, 2022. Sackboy: A Big Adventure might also be coming to PC, but this is unconfirmed. While this is coming a good few years after their initial release dates, these are still some of PlayStation’s biggest titles.
Simply porting some of these games to PC was one thing, but the label of ‘PlayStation PC LLC’ solidifies it as part of its larger game plan (pardon the pun). It’s unlikely we’ll see God of War: Ragnarok having a simultaneous release on PC though. Sony’s first party line up is a way of pushing interest in their consoles. But a later PC release can add renewed interest in its various properties.
A number of PlayStation exclusive games, like Death Stranding and Detroit: Become Human have also made it to PC. Though games like these were only funded and published by Sony, they aren’t first party studios.
