PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst isn’t quite sure whether Horizon Forbidden West will be released this year.
When being interviewed during a Q&A on the PlayStation Blog, while Hulst believes that the Horizon Zero Dawn sequel is on track to release in 2021, he doesn’t seem 100% sure.
On the topic of a release date, Hulst said: “So we have, currently, two very big, very narrative-driven games in development: Horizon Forbidden West and the next God of War. And for both of those, they’re frankly affected by access to performance capture and talent.
“For Horizon, we think we are on track to release this holiday season. But that isn’t quite certain yet, and we’re working as hard as we can to confirm that to you as soon as we can.”
Last week we got to see the first gameplay for Horizon Forbidden West and to say that much of the community was blown away by the reveal was an understatement.
Many had hoped that we’d get a release date for Aloy’s next adventure. Sadly, when the presentation came to its conclusion, there was no release date or release window in sight.
I think many of us would have assumed that Aloy’s sequel will be released this year (especially as this had been teased by Sony), but much like the God of War sequel, 2022 release windows are also possible.
We can take some comfort in Hulst saying that Horizon Forbidden West is “on track to release this holiday season” but we can’t take that for granted. That said, I just want this sequel to be the best it can be, so I’m all for it releasing when it’s good and ready.
