Square Enix might be working on a new Tactics Ogre game, if a new trademark listing is to be believed.
As shared by Nibel on Twitter, a game titled Tactics Ogre: Reborn has been trademarked in Japan. The account that spotted this trademark listing, Renka_schedule, also pointed out in a separate tweet that a questionnaire was sent out by Square Enix last year referencing Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre.
Trademark listings can often be done just to preserve ownership over a title. But it should be noted that Tactics Ogre was referenced in the big Nvidia list leak last year. Of course, seeing as this is just a trademark filing, next to nothing is known about the game. With a subtitle like Reborn, it could easily be a remake or a brand new game.
Tactics Ogre is part of a wider series of Ogre Battle games, of which there are five. The game plays similarly to the slightly more popular Final Fantasy Tactics, and is somewhat of a cult-classic. In 2010, a remake of the original Tactics Ogre was released for the PSP. Which is also the last time an entrance in the series was released.
It wouldn’t be too surprising to see Square Enix bringing back Tactics Ogre. After all, during March’s PlayStation State of Play, a new Valkyrie Profile game, Valkyrie Elysium, was revealed. Considering the last game in the Valkyrie series that wasn’t a mobile game was released in 2008, anything is possible.
