Square Enix is set to reveal a new Eidos-Montreal game at this year’s E3, according to a recent announcement.
Titled Square Enix Presents, the publisher’s E3 showcase is scheduled to take place on the 13th of June. In a recent announcement, Square Enix offered some clues about what will be featured at its event, which includes a “world premiere” of a new Eidos project.
If you’re familiar with Eidos-Montreal, then you’ll be aware of the developer’s legacy. From the Tomb Raider series to the 2020 brawler Marvel’s Avengers, the studio is a dominant part of Square Enix’s lineup.
Of course, while Eidos-Montreal has a rich catalogue of titles it could revisit, the developer is reportedly working on a Guardians of the Galaxy game [via Kotaku].
So, let’s pretend for a second that Eidos-Montreal isn’t working on another Marvel game. What else could the developer have in the works?
Well, the studio could revive its Legacy of Kain series, which has been out of action since the cancellation of Dead Sun. Recently, The Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver was taken down from Steam for “important updates”, which sparked suspicion amongst fans.
Weirdly, Square Enix’s E3 lineup doesn’t appear to feature anything Final Fantasy-related. This is especially strange considering the publisher reportedly has an unannounced Final Fantasy game in the works.
While recent rumours have suggested that the new game is a collaboration between Square Enix and Team Ninja, could Eidos-Montreal be also involved? Only time will tell!
Regardless of what’s announced at Square Enix Presents, it’s sure to be a hell of a show. Who knows, perhaps the publisher will pull some tricks out of its hat during the event. If not, at least we’ll get some updates on the likes of Babylon’s Fall, Life is Strange: True Colours and Marvel’s Avengers.
Anyway, bring back Legacy of Kain, you cowards!
