A Red Dead Redemption 2 fan with nearly 6,000 hours of game time on Google Stadia has been saved by Rockstar Games.
Recently it was announced that Google Stadia is soon to be shutting down. When Google Stadia launched in 2019, it struggled to take off, mainly due to its non-consumer-friendly subscription model. Google did try to fix the issues that troubled Stadia, but it was too late for the cloud gaming service.
Google Stadia only lasted three years!
Google Stadia, “hasn’t gained the traction with users that we expected so we’ve made the difficult decision to begin winding down our Stadia streaming service,” said VP Phil Harrison in a blog post.
Furthermore, Stadia is set to officially close on January 18th 2023. Players will receive refunds for all games and DLC by mid-January. However, due to its cloud gaming model, gamers are set to lose hundreds, if not thousands of hours of game time.

Fans were worried that Red Dead Redemption 2 data would be lost forever!
As reported by Gamesradar, one such gamer is YouTuber “Colour”. This particular player was set to lose nearly 6,000 hours put into Red Dead Redemption 2.
“Please let us do a one-time character transfer I am begging you,” pleaded the YouTuber devastated at the thought of losing all those hours invested into the Rockstar Western.
However, in a tweet shared by Colour, Rockstar Games reached out to the YouTuber and announced that players will now be able to make a one-time transfer of data. Happy days!
How do I transfer my Red Dead Redemption 2 data?
Firstly, players will need to link their Rockstar Social Club account to their Google Stadia account. Secondly, the transfer is only valid for players that played RDR2 on Stadia within 30 days prior to Google announcing the closure of the cloud gaming service.
What else do I need to know about the Google Stadia transfer?
The transfer will include any “earned RDO$, Gold Bars, XP, Role XP and Role Tokens” to another existing account on PC, PlayStation 4 as well as Xbox One. Finally, make sure to perform the transfer long before Google Stadia closes on January 18th, 2023, just in case.

In related news, CD Projekt Red also announced that you can transfer Google Stadia save data for Cyberpunk 2077 to PC and consoles. Details can be found here.
