Tomb Raider writer Rhianna Pratchett hopes that Lara Croft won’t have father issues in the newly announced game in the series.
In various Tomb Raider video game outings, as well as the movies, Lara’s unresolved father issues have often been a driving force in her adventures. However, Pratchett hopes that these issues won’t be such a focal point in upcoming games.

“We had a really fun time-evolving her character, so I would like to see probably less father issues,” Pratchett told Eurogamer at the BAFTA Game Awards last week. “And that’s coming from me!” added the writer.
Personally, as a fan of the Tomb Raider series, I’m inclined to agree with Pratchett. It will be nice to see Lara Croft having new motivations in new adaptations. That being said, I don’t think that part of Lara’s past should be totally ignored.
When Square Enix announced that a new Tomb Raider game was in development and it would be powered by Unreal Engine 5, I couldn’t have been more excited. However, I would love to see Lara return to her charismatic, wise-cracking and ass-kicking roots.
Could we be getting another remake?
Well, according to a recent rumour, a return to Lara of old, could be what we’re getting. Kind of. If rumours are to be believed, the new Tomb Raider game would be a remake of the 1996 original.

To be honest, I’m a little conflicted about these reports. More so due to the fact that we’ve already had a remake with Tomb Raider: Anniversary in 2007.
In my opinion, this is one of my favourite remakes of all time and despite being 15 years old, it still holds up well today. It’s also backward compatible on Xbox, so go and check it out if you haven’t already.
