It seems that Norse multiplayer survival game Valheim has had the biggest ever launch for a survival game on Steam.
Valheim only launched just shy of two weeks ago as a Steam early access title on February 2nd. Already it’s hitting record numbers.
Just this week it was revealed that Valheim has not only sold more than two million units since its launch, but has also been beating the likes of GTA 5, PUBG, Apex Legends and more with almost 350,000 concurrent players.
However, as of February 14th, Valheim has now hit a peak of 367,443 on Steam making it the fastest growing game of its genre ever.
According to IGN, other video games of the same genre such as Ark: Survival Evolve and Rust have not reached the high number of concurrent players during their lifetimes and are only comparable during their launch windows.
Apparently the only game that Valheim is yet to conquer of a similar(ish) genre is Terraria, which reached an impressive number of 489,886 concurrent players in May 2020.
However, on an average day, Terraria will bring in around 30,000 to 50,000 players, which Valheim is currently surpassing with ease.
It’s worth keeping in mind that Valheim has only just launched. As we’ve seen with many games over the years, some catch like wildfire on streaming platforms, hitting insane viewership and sales numbers.
So with that said it will be interesting to see the number of average concurrent players that Valheim is reaching a year from now. Check out the Viking multiplayer on Steam!
