‘Tis the season to be jolly and ’tis also the season to open your wallets and spend big during the annual Steam Holiday Sale. Right now Steam has a pretty sweet sale on a number of games in celebration of The Game Awards 2019, but the official holiday festivities won’t be kicking off until next week.
The news comes along with the annual Steam Awards celebration, which starts the same date as the next sale, on December 19.
Until then, Valve will be releasing a single nomination game each day, with voting beginning on the 19th, running until just before the starts of 2020.
We usually see the awards announced in the first couple of weeks of January, so keep an eye out if you want to see who’s bagging themselves an award this year!
The Steam game awards categories include: “Labor of Love,” “Better with Friends,” “Most innovative Gameplay,” “Outstanding story-rich Game,” “Best game you suck at,” “Outstanding visual style,” “VR Game of the Year,” and “Game of the Year.” It’s definitely a lot less serious than The Game Awards!
Speaking of which, 2019 saw Steam and TGA collaborate to bring you 48 hours of upcoming games which you can play for free. Called the Steam Game Festival, you can try out some unreleased games via Steam for a limited period, but with time running out you’d best act quick!
The games you can play for free for the event include the following: Heavenly Bodies, System Shock, Eastward, Spiritfarer, Moving Out, Chicory, Wooden Nickel, Haven, Acid Knife, The Drifter, CARRION and SkateBIRD.
As for the Steam Winter Sale who knows what we’ll be seeing. Let’s hope we’ve saved up enough for this…
