Xbox Cloud Gaming Stream Quality Improved With New Feature

A new Xbox Cloud Gaming feature has been introduced which improves the visual quality of games while streaming. Titled Clarity Boost, the feature is available now on Microsoft Edge Canary, the inside program for users of the browser software.

Game streaming has come a long way in recent years, and Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming service is probably one of the best available at the moment. However, there is a noticeable disparity in visuals between locally ran games, and those streamed over the internet. While it certainly doesn’t make games unplayable, they are a touch fuzzier.

The software uses a number of “client-side scaling boosts,” according to Xbox Program Manager, Milena Gonzales. While they didn’t provide any specifics of how the technology works, the blog does provide a comparison picture. Gears Tactics character Gabriel Diaz is pictured with the feature turned on and off. While turned on, Diaz’s facial hair and minor facial details appear more clearly.

Clarity Boost certainly isn’t a game changer by any stretch of the imagination, but for those Xbox Cloud gamers who are using Edge, it’s certainly a welcome addition. As previously mentioned, Clarity Boost is currently only available to those Edge users who sign up to the Canary program. Gonzales does confirm that Clarity Boost will have a full Edge launch, but that won’t be until sometime next year.

In other news, Microsoft recently revealed a rejection letter from Nintendo. The publisher unsuccessfully tried to acquire Nintendo prior to launching the original Xbox.
