Yakuza Ishin remake is finally coming to the west

Yakuza Ishin is finally coming to the west with a full remake after a wait of over eight years. Alas, that day is nearly here!

Yakuza Ishin was originally released in 2014 for PS3 as well as PS4. Sadly, it was only released in Japan. However, while you are able to import the game, unless you understood Japanese, you had to make do with written translations, acting like a game guide.

No more written translations!

Thankfully, we’ll no longer need to import Yakuza Ishin or have written translations by our side, because it’s getting a full remake. The remake is renamed Like a Dragon: Ishin and it arrives in February 2023.

Rebuilt using Unreal Engine 4, Like a Dragon: Ishin is a spin-off to the mainline Yakuza series and is set during the 1860s in a fictionalised version of Kyoto.

While this may be a spin-off to the Yakuza series, it will still star beloved characters (kind of) such as Kazuma Kiryu, Goro Majima, Ryuji Goda, Shun Akiyama and more.

We recognise those faces, but…

However, Like a Dragon: Ishin will offer a little twist when compared to the mainline Yakuza games. While the lovable Kiryu will offer a familiar face, in the spin-off, he’s known as Sakamoto Ryoma.

The Yakuza series, as well as the Judgment games, are known for their free-flowing, high-octane combat, and Like a Dragon: Ishin will be no exception.

Yakuza Ishin remake offers four fighting styles

In terms of combat, the remake will offer four fighting styles. Swordsman, Gunman and Brawler pretty much speak for themselves. The fourth fighting style is Wild Dancer which combines both sword and gun combat.

In 2021, we published an article pleading with SEGA and RGG Studio to release western ports of Yakuza: Ishin and its predecessor, Yakuza: Kenzan. So that’s one down, and one more to go!

Are you excited about this remake? Let us know across our social media channels. Like a Dragon: Ishin will be released in February 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
