It seems like all the upcoming Mario Kart 8 DLC courses will be available to play online without having to pay for them.
At last week’s Nintendo Direct, we got a surprise reveal of Mario Kart 8 DLC. The DLC will add 48 new tracks to the game from a number of previous Mario Kart games. If you want to play them offline, you will need to pay the £22.49 price tag. But according to Nintendo itself, you will be able to play the tracks online even without paying for them.
“Courses from Wave 1 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass can be played from 18th March locally or online in Friends and Rivals races, even if only one player owns the Booster Course Pass or has access to it as part of a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership,” reads a section of the official Mario Kart page. “From March 22nd, courses from Wave 1 will also appear in the Random selection when playing Global or Regional races with anyone online.”
This is great news, as fans might want to try out some of the courses before making the purchase. It does add a lot of new courses, but the cost of the DLC is as much as a game. And some fans aren’t completely sold on it. One fan pointed out how the art style of the new courses doesn’t look like the main game.
“The tracks they’re adding to MK8 Deluxe look completely different from the courses in the original game,” reads a tweet from Jolly J. “The artstyle looks just like the Mario Kart Tour app.” With the first wave out March 18, that’s unlikely to change any time soon.
