The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 now has an official name. Furthermore, its release date has also been announced.
Rather than being called “Breath of the Wild 2”, its sequel is officially called “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” Along with the name and release date, we were also treated to a new gameplay trailer.
The Breath of the Wild sequel takes to the skies
The gameplay trailer in question featured Link high above the clouds, giving us Skyward Sword vibes. The trailer began with Link looking at various rune stones which appear to be referring to adventures of the past. I’m probably wrong, but I am sure that I saw something related to Majora’s Mask, among other things.
In typical Legend of Zelda fashion, Link then exits a tomb before sprinting and jumping into the clouds. It is here that Link then finds himself on some kind of stone bird glider. The trailer then came to an end with a name reveal and the release date of May 12th, 2023.
Hopefully, now that the cat is officially out of the bag, we’ll see more gameplay for the Breath of the Wild sequel in the coming months.
There were no Zelda ports announced
As with almost every Nintendo Direct event, the rumour mill is spinning rampantly with alleged leaked announcements. This time, rumours were running wild that Nintendo Switch ports for Wind Waker as well as Twilight Princess were to be announced.
Obviously, those ports were not announced. I suppose we can always jump back onto the rumour mill for the next Nintendo Direct presentation. That being said, at least the reports of the Breath of the Wild sequel getting its official name were true.
