Amazon seems to be ramping up its live action video game adaptations, as a God of War series is reportedly being considered.
As reported by Deadline, Prime Video is apparently currently in negotiations to make a live action adaptation of Santa Monica Studio’s God of War. Nothing is set in stone as of yet. But according to the report the adaptation will be helmed by The Expanse creators/ executive producers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby.
As well as The Wheel of Time producer/ showrunner Rafe Jukins. And Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions would also be involved. Though apparently when Deadline reached out to Sony and Amazon Studios for comment both declined.
This isn’t the only live action video game adaptation that Amazon is supposedly working on. Last year, Deadline also reported that an adaptation of BioWare’s Mass Effect might be in the works from Amazon. But like the God of War adaptation, details are very slim.
Amazon isn’t just looking at the big names either. As adaptations of Life is Strange and Disco Elysium are also on the table, after Amazon signed a deal with dj2 Entertainment.
God of War wouldn’t be the only PlayStation game to get a live action adaptation. A Twisted Metal show has been in the works for a long while, but it recently got picked up by streaming service Peacock. Again, there aren’t too many details on the show right now. But we do know that Avengers star Anthony Mackie is set to star in the lead role.
