A worthy successor to Wii Sports is finally on the way – during tonight’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo finally announced Nintendo Switch Sports.
At launch, this game will include almost all the classic games, as well as three new additions to the lineup.
Tennis
Bowling
Chambara (who knows, but I’m excited to find out)
Soccer
Badminton
Volleyball
Don’t worry – your TV screens will be safe for a little bit. Golf will be added in a free update this Fall. It’s a shame that we wont see Baseball or Boxing – those were two of my favourites as a kid. Who knows? Maybe they’ll be added as part of a free update later down the line.
Nintendo Switch Sports will be released on April 29th 2022. Can’t wait until then? There’s an online play test planned for Nintendo Switch Online members from February 18th – 20th. This is to test the all new online features and work out any bugs.
As expected, the game will support local play with family and friends on one Switch system. However, in a first for the series, online play across all sports and random matchmaking will be added.
Nintendo also had a few other announcements to make tonight. It revealed Mario Strikers, a Portal collection on Switch, and 48 new tracks for Mario Kart 8.
Will you be picking up Nintendo Switch Sports? I know I certainly will be. Let us know across our social channels.
